Friends

_
____

When I first started my career in watercolor, I painted a lot of dogs. Those were my very first commissions. That lead to other furry creatures. All cute as a button. The eyes and the noses were my favorite parts. Hope you like my collection of "friends". :~)

These watercolors are really wonderful. Pets were my first commissions too. Interesting. About what size are these? You certainly can control a watercolor brush!!

Oh yes I do - all believable and painterly. Your blog address is so apt for these great portraits. This collection will certainly create interest for new commissions by pet owners.... but do you want to go back down that road??

I am in awe these are just so perfect and I love all of them, you have captured the individuality and essence of them all, hope to see some more of them from you over the coming year

Beautiful work! Have you painted Brier & Thorn?

Hi Judith, the dogs are about 11" x 14". The squirrel and raccoon are larger. They always say paint what you love, so I do love dogs!!

Thanks K. and Arti, hoping for a happy and healthy new year for all.

Hi Joan, the portraits are fun to do. So many of the pets had passed on, and people wanted a nice memorial for their beloved pet. If the owners didn't have good photo reference, it was difficult. And there was always lots of tears, both talking about the years of love with their pet, and after they see the portrait. But it was something they could cherish forever. At this point I don't really have time to do those anymore. We have flowers to paint!!

Hi Terry, Yes, capturing the personality was #1 on the list. I especially liked the shepherd mix with one floppy ear. A "tough guy" with the big leather collar, but a real sweetheart.

No, Carol, I haven't painted Brier and Thorn. But maybe some day. I do have a friends dog that I want to paint soon, a cute little black mixed breed. I'll post it when it's done. :~)

They are wonderful! I cannot resist furry friends to start, but your mastery of the media takes it to a different level. I understand about eyes and noses - the most expressive features.

All the best to you in the new year!

Jackie, there just isn't anything to say about how wonderful these are. We all know you do flowers where they look like you could pluck one and stick it in a vase but your animals are as wonderful. I can't wait to see a landscape from you!
Always..Dawn
